Ocarina of Time is back: get it on cartridge

Why buy a Zelda game in physical

More and more games are sold only as downloads, and some boxes now contain a download code or a game-key card instead of the full game on the cartridge. A cartridge is different: the game belongs to you. You can lend it to a friend, sell it, play it on another console without logging in to your account, and it still works the day a store closes. For a series like Zelda, which people replay years later, that matters.

Check the box before buying

On Nintendo Switch 2, some boxes are game-key cards: the cartridge only unlocks a download. If you want the whole game on the cartridge, look at the mention on the box and in the product details on Amazon. The edition and format are always written under the product title.

Switch 1 and Switch 2 games

Most Nintendo Switch cartridges also work on Nintendo Switch 2, so older Zelda games like Skyward Sword HD or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity stay playable. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom also exist in a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which runs better on the new console and works with Zelda Notes, the app used to scan the AutoBuild QR codes of this site.

Which Zelda to start with?

For the open world: Breath of the Wild, then Tears of the Kingdom. For a shorter, more puzzle-driven adventure where you play as Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. For the story of the Master Sword: Skyward Sword HD. And for the classic everyone talks about: Ocarina of Time.
